It’s been confirmed that Chris Hemsworth is going to play the role of iconic Wrestler Hulk Hogan, in an upcoming film biopic of his life. There have been mixed responses to the news. Many believe that Hemsworth will do an amazing job portraying the larger than life wrestler, while others simply don’t believe he could ever be big enough to do the role justice.

Chris Hemsworth has already shown he is more than capable of transforming his physique for a role as he demonstrated very well with the Thor movies, but this role potentially requires an even bigger transformation.

To put this into context, Hulk Hogan’s statistics back in the day where allegedly as follows:

  • He stands 6 ft 7 inches / 2m tall
  • Weighed in around 300 lbs / 136 kg
  • And apparently had 24 inch arms

In contrast, Chris Hemsworth’s stats for Thor were:

  • Stands 6 ft 3 inches / 1.9m tall
  • Weighed in around 220 lbs / 100kg
  • Consensus seems to be 16 inch arms, but personally I think they are probably bigger than that

So height aside, there is a huge 80 lb deficit in weight there but I think there are a few things to consider.  Firstly, Chris’ physique as Thor was pretty lean. I think the 300 lb version of Hulk Hogan was carrying a lot more body fat, which actually also accounts for some of the size.

Aside from some of his stats maybe being a little embellished, when you see his 24 inch arms compared to Arnold Schwarzenegger who famously had 22 inch arms, most people would probably say that Arnold’s look bigger. A lot of the size in Hulk’s arms are from non-lean mass.

It’s still a big gap, but I think any differences could be made up using movie magic. For example, when Hulk Hogan played a role in Rocky III as Thunderlips, you can see him dwarfing Sylvester Stallone. And while he was certainly much larger, when you see them side by side at an event, the real size difference is clearly much less than is portrayed in the movie.

Currently Chris Hemsworth is already in preparation for the Thor Love and Thunder movie, and there will be a long time before production starts on the Hulk Hogan project. So he does have some time to prepare.

In terms of Hulk Hogan’s reaction to Chris Hemsworth playing him, he tweeted that he believes he’s already there physically – his only question mark was whether he was good enough looking to play him.

Chris Hemsworth is said to be really excited about the role, and apparently agreed to the contract before even seeing a final script. About the project, he has said:

This movie is going to be a really fun project. As you can imagine, the preparation for the role will be insanely physical. I will have to put on more size than I ever have before, even more than I put on for Thor. There is the accent as well as the physicality and the attitude.

More recently, Chris Hemsworth shared some photographs from a recent holiday. Apparently this is his last holiday before he starts filming the Thor: Love & Thunder movie, and many have already said how be big he already looks.
