The latest trailer for Aquaman 2018 has just been released, and once again Jason Momoa looks in incredible shape for the role. He in part has helped completely reinvent the character of Aquaman since the comic book days where he wore the orange and green suit. Jason’s first outing as Arthur Curry/Aquaman was in the Justice League movie, but the standalone movie looks like a great addition to the DC movies.

Jason has transformed his body over a number of years, working with different trainers and nutritionists for a wide variety of roles. You can find out more about his workout, training and diet from the video below.

His first real transformation was to get into shape to play the role of Conan the Barbarian, where he used the AR7 training method by Eric Laciste (Accelerated Results 7). This involves lots of volume and intensity and relatively lower weights. Training is limited to 30 minute high intensity sessions, but there may be 2-3 workouts per day. Each body part can have over 100 reps with very little rest between sets. Jason used this programme again for the role of Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones.

For Aquaman, Jason worked with Mark Twight using the Gym Jones method; the same plan used by Henry Cavill for Superman and Gerard Butler for Leonidas in the 300 movie. This plan had to be extremely flexible in terms of intensity and volume to fit around busy schedules and particular filming scenes, and also take into account Jason’s active lifestyle and love of climbing.

Jason also worked with nutritionist Stuart Walton to get into shape for the movie. Again flexibility was key to success, with even an allowance for Guinness in the plan! Check out the video for more information.
