My wife and have always tried to prioritise experiences over things, and this year has been the first time where when it comes to birthdays, special occasions, anniversary’s etc, instead of buying presents we’ve purchased trips abroad as short city breaks. My birthday is in November, so I was treated to a weekend away in Venice! Of course as vloggers and photographers, the whole experience was captured and I made a short video which you can see below.

This was my first time to Italy, and if I’m honest I had no idea just how amazing Venice was until I arrived there. I didn’t realise how little I knew about it, and was quite amazed by the whole place. Everything was so picturesque I could basically take a photograph at any angle and it would be a great shot.

This trip was also the first time we had used a travel counsellor; they organised and booked everything for us based on our requirements and it worked out really well. We were met by a rep at Marco Polo airport who lead us down to our private water taxi, which took us directly to the hotel we were staying at next to the lagoon. I tried to just sit back and enjoy the ride as much as I could, but the lighting was beautiful (peak golden hour) and I couldn’t resist filming.

During our stay there were a few things I really wanted to try, like a ride on a Gondola, which took us along the canals and into Grand Canal. We also visited Harry’s bar, which is where the Bellini was invented and we had a very enjoyable but extremely expensive peach Bellini (€42 for two drinks). Of course I also sampled plenty of pasta, pizza, beer, prosecco and coffee! The only food I missed out on was Gelato!

I had several hours of footage from our short 2-3 day trip, but I managed to condense this down into a 4 minute highlight video. For any other vloggers or film makers out there, this is the equipment I used to make the video:
