I love a good transformation, and those made for a film role I find particularly interesting! Having compiled a list on my top 10 celebrity super hero transformations earlier in the year based on years of possible films to choose from, I decided it was time to create volume 2 based largely on some of the upcoming films in 2017/2018.

Here is a breakdown of the list:

Josh Brolin – Cable (Deadpool 2)

Josh Brolin has taken up the role of Cable, the main antagonist in the upcoming Deadpool 2 movie and from the set pictures and Instagram posts it looks like he got into superb shape for the role. I can’t wait to see this movie.

Ryan Reynolds – Deadpool (Deadpool 1 & 2)

Ryan Reynolds has a very underrated physique, which often goes unnoticed. However he has come a long way since the days of movies like Van Wilder, and all the action roles he plays has had a big impact on his physique. I first noticed what great shape he was in when I saw Blade 3 Trinity, and he played vampire hunter Hannibal King. He has kept in great shape for all of his recent movies, and in Deadpool he was noticeably lean and well proportioned which is a great look.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson – Kick-Ass/Quicksilver (Kick-Ass 1 & 2/Avengers)

Aaron Taylor-Johnson was very skinny in Kick-Ass, but was also well conditioned and his abs raised a few eyebrows in the Kick-Ass movies.  However he continued to build lean mass, and looked very athletic as Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron. He has continued to build up his physique, and in Godzilla he was noticeably much larger. It will be interesting to see his progress with this in future films.

Frank Grillo – Crossbones (Captain America:Winter Solider, Captain America: Civil War)

Frank Frillo is known for being super ripped in films such as Warrior and the TV Series Kingdom. In the Captain America franchise films he plays Crossbones, and although his physique is never really revealed, you can tell just what great condition he is in.

Margot Robbie – Harley Quinn (Suicide Squad)

Margot Robbie performs lots of body weight training and circuits to stay in shape for her films, however she also took on some gymnastic instruction and fight training to play the role of Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad movie. Needless to say she looks fantastic.

David Harbour – Hellboy (Hellboy 2018)

Photos have only just been released showing David Harbour as Hellboy to promote the release of the 2018 film. He looks fantastic but this most likely largely a prosthetic similar to one used in the Ron Perlman movie. The extensive training videos and images that have been released are probably more to get him in shape for the movie, and so that he fits well within the costume.

Zoe Saldana – Gamora (Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2)

Zoe Saldana plays the role of Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, but has been in action films for a long time. Films of note include Star Trek, Columbiana and Avatar! She is in great shape for all the films, but a lot of people don’t know she has had 3 children. She needed to work hard to get her pre-baby shape back, which she did through Pilates, strength training and nutrition.

Tom Holland – Spiderman (Spiderman Homecoming)

Tom’s career started in musical theatre where he played the role of Billy Elliot. All that dancing kept him in good shape, and provided a base of the athletic ability he needed to play the role of Spiderman. He also enjoys gymnastics, trampoline and free-running, so he was very well suited to the stunts and was very lean. He worked with personal trainers to help refine his physique further for the movie.

Paul Rudd – Ant Man (Ant Man, Captain America: Civil War)

Paul Rudd upgraded his “dadbod” to a very athletic physique to play the role of Ant Man. He looked noticeably leaner than in previous roles, and the famous training scene showing off his abs definitely surprised a lot of people in the movie.

Stephen Amell – Green Arrow (Arrow TV Series)

Stephen Amell is always in great shape, and fans of Arrow will no doubt all think of the famous Salmon Ladder scenes which are an impressive feat of body weight strength. This strength is obviously very functional, as shown when Stephen took part in Celebrity Ninja Warrior. He performed brilliantly on the show, and if you get chance it’s worth a watch!
